IEEE 802.3z (Gigabit Ethernet) LAN Standards

The IEEE 802.3z LAN Standards, also known as GIGABIT ETHERNET, are defined as follow:

1000BaseSX

>> Medium: Optical Fiber 2MM (2 strands);
>> Maximum length per segment: 550 m;
>> Topology: Star;

1000BaseLX

>> Medium: Optical Fiber 2SM (2 strands);
>> Maximum length per segment: 5 km;
>> Topology: Star;

1000BaseCX

>> Medium: STP;
>> Maximum length per segment: 25 m;
>> Topology: Star;

1000BaseT

>> Medium: UTP cat.5;
>> Maximum length per segment: 100 m;
>> Topology: Star;

802.3z Standards have:

Data Rate: 1 Gbps;
Optical Fiber:
>> MM - Multi Mode;
>> SM - Single Mode;
